Garba by the Lake
— Community garba night, Vastrapur Lake
A community garba practice that runs on Friday evenings through May and June, building toward Navratri. Organised by local neighbourhood societies with no commercial backing, no ticket sales, and no Instagram filters. Just people dancing around the lake the way they have for generations.
Organised by the Vastrapur Residents Association since 2019. The event uses traditional folk music — dhol, shehnai, tabla — rather than the Bollywood remixes that dominate commercial garba venues. The dance circles form naturally and newcomers are welcomed without ceremony.
Free entry. Bring your own water. The event begins at 20:00 and runs until midnight or whenever the dhol player's arms give out, whichever comes first.
